Clearly, the heart of a model railroad layout has to be its trains and, of course, they have to move. Unless one is modeling in "live steam" the trains are, regardless of appearances, powered by electricity. (In the case of "N" scale this electricity is in the form of Direct Current or DC).

Initially, I powered my layout with simple "power packs" that I happened to have on hand from my earlier forays into the hobby in several scales. When I discovered that the Heathkit 1065 throttle was a modernized commercially available form of the TAT IV I set about to buy them and upgraded the main lines to this form of transistorized control. With the advent of my renewed interest in my layout in the beginning of 2007 I resumed my passion for building my own throttles. The details of my work on the electrically related aspects of model railroading, perhaps the heart of the reason for my fascination with the hobby, are detailed in the pages accessed through the menu to the left.
